Why Your Blog Gets Traffic But No Enquiries

Short answer
Blog traffic that doesn't convert is almost always the result of targeting informational keywords with no commercial path. Someone searching "how to unblock a drain" wants to avoid hiring you. The fix is not better calls to action; it's building content at the point where research turns into buying intent, and using informational content for authority and AI citation rather than direct conversion.
Understand what the traffic actually wants
Search intent sits on a spectrum from learning to buying. A post that ranks for a how-to query attracts people trying to solve the problem themselves. Adding a bigger button will not change what they came for.
Stop judging informational posts by conversions
That doesn't make the post worthless. Informational content builds topical authority, earns links, and increasingly gets cited by AI assistants — which is how a growing share of buyers now form a shortlist. Judge it on rankings, citations and assisted conversions, not on direct enquiries.
Build the middle of the funnel
The gap on most small business sites is comparison and decision content: "X vs Y", "how much does X cost", "how to choose a provider", "what to look for". These have lower volume and dramatically higher intent. Our answers hub exists entirely to serve this stage.
Link informational posts to commercial pages properly
One contextual link in the body, placed where a reader would naturally want more, beats three links in a sidebar nobody looks at. Use descriptive anchor text that says where the link goes.
Check you're not cannibalising yourself
If three posts and a service page all target the same phrase, search engines pick one, usually not the one you'd choose. Consolidate into the strongest page and redirect the rest. The keyword research method we use groups by page for exactly this reason.
Measure the right thing in GA4
Set up conversion events for calls and form submissions, then look at landing page reports rather than sitewide totals. You will usually find that four or five pages produce nearly all enquiries — which tells you where the next month of work belongs.
